VET courses

Vocational Education and Training

Camden High School has an extensive vocational educational program. Our school forms part of the Macarthur Trade Training Centre network of schools that deliver VET courses across our district. Other participating schools include: Elderslie High School and Elizabeth Macarthur High School.

Camden High School's management plan stipulates a strong and dedicated focus on VET and career pathways for all senior students. Consequently, priority is placed on teacher professional development, maintaining industry currency and meeting all RTO compliance.

Our focus is also maintaining industry standard facilities and equipment in our learning areas. As such we have recently refurbished the hospitality kitchen to commercial standard and successfully operate a café run by senior Hospitality students. The Business Services facility was recently refurbished and is now operating at industry standard assisting students to access business technology that duplicates industry.

Courses offered

We offer four framework courses. They are:

  • Stage 5 Hospitality
  • Hospitality – Kitchen operations
  • Hospitality - 120 Hour Specialisation Study
  • Business services
  • Primary industries
  • Entertainment

Our students can access the following courses at Elderslie High School:

  • Primary Industries
  • Construction

Our students can also access the following course at Elizabeth Macarthur High School:

Work placement

Work placement is a mandatory component of any VET course. It is very different to work experience (which is usually done in Year 10) as the work placement is directly related to the subject the student is studying. Students also turn up on the first day with some skills they have already learnt in the classroom.

At Camden high school we have:

  • Highly qualified teachers who have extensive industry experience
  • We offer all VET courses up to Cert II level, with the opportunity to gain apprenticeships and traineeships
  • Conduct course information sessions and career guidance
  • Established links with organizations such as My Gateway, Hospitality Training Network, Camden Liquor Accord and Macarthur Workplace Learning Program. These organisations provide access to career expo, interview planning, CV preparation, RSA training and arrange interviews with prospective employers.
  • We have special events to support VET students: Work Readiness Program, Parent Information Evenings, Year 10 subject selections, Macarthur Trade Training Centre information night, Interschool Culinary Challenge, World Skills and award presentations.
